Abstract

Purpose: This study examined the effects of home care services on physical health, cognition, and depression in community-dwelling elderly with a chronic disease.

Methods: This study adopted a pre-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The 63 subjects were recruited from a community in S city, Korea and received home care services 15 times for 12 months. Data was collected by using a physical health assessment, mini-mental state examination-Korean version (MMSE-K), and geriatric depression screening (GDSS).

Results: The score of health status and cognition increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the pre-test.

Conclusion: These findings indicate home care service may be advantageous for community-dwelling elderly with a chronic disease.
